War Reparations
These are Greece’s claims against Germany to restore the damage inflicted by German forces on Greece’s infrastructure and productive capital during the period of the German Occupation (1941–1944).
The initial amount of these claims, as officially stated by the Greek delegation at the Paris Conference (1946), was set at $6,741,070,692. Following calculations by the Hellenic State and the General Accounting Office in 2014, this amount rose to $382, 819, 099, 339.
Based on calculations by our Committee (International Committee on the German Debt to Greece) and taking into account the $/€ exchange rates and interest on the principal benchmarked against the yields of 10-year U.S. Treasury bonds, this amount on 10/31/2020 amounted to $501,956,931,979.
